A LIFE THROUGH THE LENS

hi there!

I’m a Photographer and Educator based in Louisville, KY

for me, photography has always been part of the picture

I started my photography business at age 16, in 1992, so I've been at this for over thirty years, which seems insane! But, when I consider all of the places my (many) cameras have taken me, it starts to make a bit more sense.

During high school, a photograph of mine placed in an NAACP competition that gave me the opportunity to meet Rosa Parks, a pretty unforgettable way to begin. Since then, my camera has taken me just about everywhere: from sidelines and stages, to celebrations, commercial sets, classrooms, city streets, and even continents.

I’ve photographed people, places, performances, wildlife, events, and plenty of things that simply caught my eye. A common denominator among them all is my passion for finding, capturing, and highlighting beauty that might otherwise go unnoticed. What I’ve always loved most about photography is the noticing. The light changes. Someone laughs. A gesture happens for half a second. A familiar place suddenly looks completely different. I love being there for those moments and finding a way to share them.

Over time, teaching became an avenue for this. It brings me great joy to help clients understand their cameras, expand their creative horizons, and become more confident in the way they see and photograph the world. More than thirty years in, I’m still learning, still looking, and still carrying a camera (always!)

    I've been on a number of photo shoots with Ayrica serving as the lead. She takes time to research the location ahead of time, puts together notes and handout specific to the location. She points out the photo details to watch for, suggests a few techniques to try, and suggested lighting when appropriate. During the shoot, she may suggest different perspectives, but allows you freedom to experiment.
